September is National Get A Library Card Month!
Check it out: all Long Hill residents age 5 and up are eligible for a free library card! What can the library do for you? In the words of Nan Harrington, Deputy Mayor of Long Hill Township: "The Long Hill Township Library is one of our most precious resources. It serves the entire community - our very youngest to our senior citizens and everyone in between. It provides a broad array of offerings - education, research, computer access, community activities, and information. And, our library staff and board are creative, innovative, and always there to help. Over the years my family has used the library countless times for countless reasons. I encourage everyone to visit our library and find what it has to offer. I promise you won't be disappointed."
Tell us why YOU like to use the library! Email to director@longhilllibrary.org.
We'll feature a different person's response each week during September.

Thanks for your support
Thanks to the efforts of library supporters and library champions in Long Hill Township and throughout New Jersey, $4.2 million in state funding for libraries was restored in the New Jersey state budget for Fiscal Year 2010/2011. This restored funding enables us to continue to provide interlibrary loan and delivery services to Long Hill Residents. Access to many high-quality informational databases that are important for students, job seekers, small business owners and lifelong learners will also continue to be funded.

Check out our Reader's Corner
Long Hill Library now has a Reader's Corner set up at our front desk, with several books devoted to answering the question "What should I read next?" These books can be checked out by anyone who is interested. We encourage you to browse these books in the library or take them home! We also subscribe to a bimonthly book review magazine called Bookmarks. Our current copy doesn't circulate but back issues do, and it's a great source for people who are looking for something good to read. Don't forget to check out our email newsletters - you can receive the New York Times Bestseller lists, monthly newsletters on genres from Armchair Travel to mystery to thrillers to DIY books, and more. Just click on NextReads Newsletters (above) to sign up. And finally, please don't forget to ask us for a good book recommendation the next time you're at the library. We love to read and we love to recommend books!

Read it Now!
A service for library patrons who love to read the latest and greatest bestsellers. Our "Read it Now" books are duplicate copies of popular bestsellers, available on a first-come, first-served basis. To underwrite the cost of this new service, we charge $1.00 to rent the book, plus an additional 15 cents per day charge. So the faster you read the book, the less you will pay! Of course, if you don't want to pay to rent a library book we are happy to put our non-rental copy on hold for you; it will just take a little longer to get to you.

Paws for Reading
Kids age 6 and up, read to a friendly therapy dog! First Wednesday and third Tuesday of each month, at 7 pm.
Sign up for your spot today! Stop by the Children's Room, or call 908-647-2088 ext 2.

Resources for Students, Researchers and the Generally Curious!
All Long Hill Library cardholders now have access to the Historic New York Times database, with full-text access to articles from 1851 through 2006. This resource presents firsthand accounts and opinions that bring history to life. Additionally, we provide access to Historical Newspapers Extra! Edition, which includes full text and images from newspapers dating back to the 18th century. Both students and adults will find useful information here, including a timeline topic browse, a way to search for news that happened on a particular date, and much more.
